Photographer's House

2008

Photographer’s House is designed for a young family in Mosman, Sydney. The site is on a busy arterial road where there is restricted vehicular access. Our proposal skews the garage plan into a parallelogram which allows for safer access from the busy road. A new studio and covered undercroft to the verdant garden is accessed from street level and completes the new entry pavilion.

The existing art deco house sits on level grade eight metres below street level. Our approach for the second storey addition is to remove the hip roof and establish a new off-form concrete structure onto the original brick dwelling. The second storey consists of a roof terrace garden from which an elevated view of Sydney Harbour is framed through the pergola structure.
